The Ministry aims at providing development and welfare opportunities in the rural areas. Development of rural areas is a pivotal strategy for the overall development of the country. It aims at developing sustainable and inclusive growth plan for the rural areas through various schemes and programs by providing livelihood opportunities, social safety and building infrastructure for growth. Also, policies and framework are in place to reduce migration of people to urban areas in search of opportunities, developmental imbalances and to reach out to the weaker sections of the society.
Rural development in the broader sense means economic up-liftment of the rural population, social transformation through education and employment opportunities. All this is achievable through decentralisation of the planning, better land-reforms, and access to credit facilities. Such plans and policies will improve the quality of life and the economic welfare of the people living in the rural areas.
The development programs initiated by the ministry recognise the need of the involvement of the people in the rural areas at grass root level. Thus, helping the people to meet their needs without any external interference.
